Sejarah Pasar Modal

a.       1912
Bursa efek pertama didirikan oleh pemerintah Hindia Belanda tahun 1912 kemudian diikuti dengan pendirian bursa efek lainnya, yaitu di Semarang dan Surabaya pada tahun 1925.
b.      1950
Pemerintah Indonesia mengeluarkan obligasi pemerintah R.I. Pemerintah mengeluarkan undang-undang darurat tentang bursa efek No. 13 tahun 1951 yang kemudian ditetapkan dengan Undang-Undang No. 15 tahun 1952. Penyelenggaraan bursa efek yang dibuka di Jakarta dilakukan oleh Perserikatan Perdagangan Uang dan Efek-Efek (PPUE).
c.       1977
Pemerintah membentuk Bapepam yaitu Badan Pelaksana Pasar Modal yang ditahun 1991 diubah namanya menjadi Badan Pengawas Pasar Modal.
d.      1995-1998
Pemerintah mengeluarkan Undang-Undang No. 8 tahun 1995 tentang pasar modal dan pada tahun 1998 pemerintah juga mengeluarkan undang-undang baru mengenai pasar modal.
